Move Mountains Gala

This past week I hopped on a plane for a very quick 24-hour trip to NYC to see some of my breast friends (pun intended).

In case you’re new on here, the Breasties are a nonprofit organization that supports young women affected by breast and reproductive cancers throughout their diagnoses and high- risk journeys. Last week they hosted their second annual Move Mountains Gala. I’d have serious FOMO if I wasn’t there so this crazy girl jumped on a plane for a quick 24 hour trip. Even though I spent what felt like half the time in NYC in a taxi, it was worth it to spend some quality time with this community that I’ve come to love so much.

Hosted at the Rumi Event Space on Thursday, October 17, the Move Mountains Gala is the yearly fundraising activation to support The Breasties. Bringing hundreds of Breasties together from across the globe, the event included a live band/dancing, top shelf open bar, silent auction, photobooths and more.

In addition to all the above, to me, the gala is a time to reconnect with some Breasties that I don’t get a chance to see that often. It’s been a tough few months for this community…

I’ve shared a little on here previously and also worked on a Chicago Magazine story to bring greater awareness to this topic in particular. Needless to say, getting everyone together to celebrate all the Breasties have accomplished was certainly just what the doctor ordered.

At the end of the night, we raised thousands of dollars (through ticket sales and donations) that will directly fund a year of programming, allowing the organization to keep retreats and events free of charge, a crucial component of all Breastie programming.

You know I’m always on the clock so while I was there, I did manage to have a meeting with an amazing online outlet that we’re working closely with to spread awareness on the issues facing cancer survivors, previvors and women overall. Much more to come on that in the weeks ahead as we flesh things out more, so stay tuned!
