Cycle for Survival 2020

For the past four years, I’ve been participating in Cycle for Survival. For those of you who don’t know, it’s an annual fundraiser owned and operated by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and the leading a nationwide movement to beat rare cancers. Since its inception in 2007, Cycle for has raised more than $208 million and counting.

I've participated in the event the past four years...the first, as someone who had no connection with the cause, the second time, as a cancer survivor and featured speaker and the third, in support of my fellow survivors and fighters out there. This year was my fourth year and, while more time has passed, it still feels like only yesterday that I was going through my own battle.

Cycle for Survival is important for many reasons…here are the top three:

1. Rare cancer research is underfunded, leaving people who are diagnosed with these cancers with few options — sometimes none. Because of the generosity of this community, we can help give rare cancer patients a better future with new and improved treatments.

2. 100% of donations (yes, every dollar!) will fund research led by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). All funds are allocated within six months after fundraising ends. Cycle for Survival will share what was funded and continue to keep us updated on progress.

3. Discoveries can benefit cancer patients everywhere. MSK treats over 400 types of cancer each year and collaborates with institutions around the world to accelerate treatment options for all patients.

Many cancers are considered rare — lymphoma, thyroid, ovarian, brain, pancreatic, all pediatric cancers, and others. I obviously feel connected to this because of my diagnosis, but this is so much bigger than me. Events like this and the donations it brings give doctors the resources they need to beat these diseases. I hope you’ll join me and JOIN THE BATTLE to beat rare cancers. xoxo
