Client Happenings: Hoosier Ball

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend the 3rd annual Hoosier Ball hosted by the Lyon Family Foundation to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and to celebrate the legacy of founder Robert H. Lyon.

As I learned at the event through beautiful tribute, Robert lost his battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 2007. He was passionate about giving back to his community and this annual event honors all the things he loved—family, friends, giving back, and of course, a good party.

My amazing clients, ESP Presents, produced the event and were kind enough to invite me along to see it firsthand. Dubbed the Hoosier Ball Sock Hop, the venue (Theater on the Lake) was entirely transformed into 50’s themed party, complete with themed eats, caterers in costume (with nametags to match!) and even the LA Roller Girls as entertainment.

And, while the event was super fun, these fundraisers are so much more to me than that. As a cancer survivor, it hits a special cord. I couldn’t help but get nostalgic watching the video and reflect on my own journey through cancer. And, while I was fortunate enough to be diagnosed early, it’s certainly not lost on me that there are so many who aren’t given that chance. Robert Lyon was one of those people – you could tell from the crowd that has rallied around the cause – and his legacy isn’t one that will soon be forgotten.

At the end of the night, I was told that through ticket sales and the live auction, they raised over $315,000 for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s important mission. Raising these funds and awareness for blood cancer treatments will provide a brighter outcome for so many future patients which is certainly cause to rock around the clock :)
