Breastie Updates!

Camp Breastie 2019

Camp Breastie 2019

One of the greatest things that has happened to me in the past few years since my diagnosis has been meeting and becoming a part of the Breastie community. These amazing women continue to amaze me with their strength, passion and positivity despite having been dealt a rough hand. And, after becoming more and more involved with them this past, I’m thrilled to announce some exciting news…I’m officially joining the team as a Breastie Ambassador for Chicago 😊

To kick things off, last month I got together with the other ladies for what turned into a three-hour dinner and boy do we have some exciting things planned…Next month, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we have a few fun activations and events happening. The first, is a meetup at Lena Rose beauty, where we’ll dive deep into education in the clean beauty world and learn all about some DIY beauty hacks to support hormonal imbalances with cancer. And, later that month, I’m headed to NYC for the annual Move Mountains Gala! The Gala is the annual fundraiser to support the Breasties. Ticket proceeds for the gala and donations directly fund a year of programming, allowing the organization to keep retreats and events free of charge, a crucial component of all Breastie programming.

I’ve been working hand-in-hand with the founders on PR/press outreach and have some great stories secured already that I know will authentically share the mission behind the Breasties.

Besides all this great stuff happening, I want to keep it real for a minute: this past month has been really hard on me. As a cancer survivor, I struggle daily with my diagnosis and my journey and constantly question if I’m doing enough. It’s certainly not lost on me that that there are so many others whose journeys are longer, whose battles are harder and none of them are deserving of it. So, why did I get “lucky?”

This month was especially hard as we lost a dear friend in the Breastie community a few weeks ago and I’m still dealing with the pain from it. Even though I only met her once, she felt like a friend. Her smile lit up a room and, although she was battling stage IV endometrial cancer, her positivity never faded.

There’s so much more work to be done in this community – more research, more clinical trials, etc. And, while it may be hard at times, that’s why I’m so passionate about the Breasties and why I choose to be a part of this community. With this month being Ovarian Cancer Awareness month I wanted to stop and take some time to talk about these things that are happening in my life, outside of the typical day-to-day work stuff. I couldn’t be more excited about this new leadership role and so excited for all that we’ll accomplish together. I’ll be posting more in the coming months with my Breastie babes so stay tuned to see what we’re up to for the year ahead!
